JW's line of scrubbers and scrapers will keep your tank walls free from algae (if you don't mind getting your hand wet). Scrubbers work well on soft algae, like brown and some green. Scrapers can work well on brown algae, but they make their money on hard algaes like green encrusting (sometimes called green spot algae) or coraline algae.
Rivers to Reef says: If you are having tons and tons of brown algae try reducing the amount of time that your light is on for. Algae eaters are not always going to be the best thing for your tank, and most only focus on soft diatom algae. If you can remove the algae easily with the scrubber an algae eater might help you.
